Hazardous Materials Technician 80-Hour Course

  • Times: 0800-1600 hours
  • Location: Salem County Fire Academy
  • Class size: 16 students
  • Registration deadline: Monday, April 21, 2025-1600 hours
  • Course Cost: $900.00
  • Prerequisites: Haz Mat Awareness and Operations, ICS 100 & ICS 200 (Training MUST be documented at the time of enrollment)

The program is designed to be responsive to the needs of the first responder with a potential for a hazardous materials response mission. It is offered in the M- F weekday format in this offering. The program meets all the requirements in 29 CFR 1910.120 (OSHA), NFPA 472 and 1072 regulations for a Technician Level III responder course as well as all NJ DEP guidelines. The course is extensively hands-on and uses realistic field evolutions. All students will be trained to wear and work effectively in level A, B & C chemical protective garments. In order to ensure the program has met its goals and its students are fully qualified as a Technician Level III Responder, he / she must demonstrate their ability to satisfactorily accomplish all tasks assigned to them and achieve a passing grade on all written quizzes and tests. All instructors teaching this course are experienced responders that have successfully mitigated hundreds of transportation and/or plant related incidents involving hazardous materials. Certificates will be issued to all students meeting all course objectives. A NJ Division of Fire Safety written examination will be available at the conclusion of the course which would lead to State/NPFSPQ certification as well if all written testing and skill objectives are met.

  • Students are required to obtain the course textbook, IFTSA Hazardous Materials Technician, 3rd ed
  • Students will be required to bring helmet, safety glasses, work gloves, steel toe boots and SCBA
