Prison Rape Elimination Act (P.R.E.A.)

SEXUAL ASSAULT IS AN ACT OF VIOLENCE

Prison Rape Elimination Act (P.R.E.A.)

In accordance with the Federal Prison Rape Elimination Act of 2003 (PREA), 42 U.S.C. |15601 et seq., a zero tolerance for the incidence of sexual assault shall be maintained at the correctional facility.

The Salem County Sheriff’s Office does not condone nor tolerate any type of sexual misconduct, sexual assault, consensual sexual contact, sexual abuse, rape and/or sexual harassment toward any inmate(s).  This Office will aggressively pursue any complaints, suspicions, or criminal acts of sexual misconduct up to and including prosecution under New Jersey State Law.  Any inmate’s family member may report an incident on behalf of an inmate by calling 856-769-1242.

Any member of the public making a false or fictitious claim may be charged criminally under New Jersey State Law NJSA 2C:28-3B(1); 2C:28-4; & all others that may be applicable.
