What is a Sheriff’s Sale?
A sheriff sale is a public auction in which repossessed property is sold by the sheriff to settle outstanding debts or judgments against the property owner. This sale typically occurs as the final stage of a foreclosure or after a court has issued a legal judgment. The property is awarded to the highest bidder, and the proceeds are used to repay creditors—such as mortgage lenders, banks, tax authorities, or other parties who have incurred financial losses related to the property.
