Salem County Sheriff Sales

Starting May 19, 2025, all Sheriff Sales will be held at the new Salem County Courthouse located at 92 Market Street, Salem, NJ 08079. Please park in the parking lot behind the old courthouse on Grant Street and enter through the door of the new courthouse. Arrive by 1:45pm if you are planning on bidding on a property so we can verify your funds. Sheriff Sales will start promptly at 2:00pm.

Charles M. Miller III the 81st Sheriff to serve in Salem County.  Elected in November 2006, Sheriff Miller is currently in his sixth term. He has served as Past President of the Sheriff’s Association of New Jersey as well as President of the Chiefs of Detectives for the New Jersey Prosecutors Offices. Sheriff Miller is a graduate of the FBI National Academy, DEA Commanders Academy, and the National Sheriff’s Academy.

Sheriff Miller began his law enforcement career as a patrolman with the Salem City Police Department in 1979.  In 1984 he was hired by the Salem County Prosecutor’s Office as an Investigator. He worked his way through the ranks of the office eventually being named Chief of County Detectives.  After his retirement, he accepted a position as Security Domestic Planner with the Office of Homeland Security where he remained until he was elected Sheriff in 2006.

During his 46 years of law enforcement experience, Sheriff Miller has progressively broadened leadership roles in the management and delivery of public safety and community-based services.  In addition to the Enforcement and Corrections aspect of the Sheriff’s Office, under his authority, the office is responsible for serving and protecting the public by providing the vital communications link (911 Center) and the Office of Emergency Services which is a necessary link between the community and emergency first responders.

Under his leadership, the Office of the Sheriff maintains the basic principles to strive for excellence, maintain professionalism, accountability, integrity, and vigilance.

Sheriff Miller is honored to work with a team of dedicated professionals and often states, “I am extremely proud of the men and women who shape the Salem County Sheriff’s Office”.

As Sheriff, he has been instrumental in protecting the quality of life for Salem County Seniors. In June 2009 he started the Salem County Triad Program and with over 700 members continues to provide unwavering support for this initiative.

A lifelong resident of Salem County, Sheriff Miller believes our citizens deserve the most efficient and effective public safety service available.   Sheriff Miller and his wife Daphne have two children and two grandchildren. They are members of St. John Episcopal Church in Salem, New Jersey where he has served as Warden of the Church.
